I Can’t Wake Up At That Hour To Work Out

As a personal trainer for over 10 plus years, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard this over the course of my career. While there are people that can find another time of the day to work out, there are many who can’t and their only option is in the wee hours of the morning. Yet, many will use lack of time as an excuse to forgo working out all together.


Many years ago, when I was in corporate accounting and had to wake up at 6am, I found it dreadful. I was so used to college and scheduling all my classes later in the morning and being able to set my alarm later. I thought it would get easier but, in all reality, who likes to wake up to an alarm clock? However, because my forced wake up was 6am, I found myself going to bed (most of the time) at a time that would give me at least 7 hours of sleep.


After I got into personal training with two babies at home, a 4am wake up was my only option. Once again, dreadful, and that 6am wakeup of the past became a dream. However, I found myself programming my body to go to bed early. After 10 plus years, I still don’t find it easy when the alarm goes off.


When we moved to FL, and started teaching virtually to CA, I was excited to change my wake up to 7am for CA’s 5am Pacific time class. However, guess what? I unintentionally changed my schedule again to where I started going to bed later and suddenly I started having to set an alarm to wake up at 7am and some days were “dreadful.”


So you want the secret? Our bodies are simply amazing! You CAN program it to do what you want it to do! And it WILL do it! 


Here’s the catch…how important is working out to you? Is it as important as having to wake up to go to work, or having to wake up for that early morning flight, or having to wake up for the crying baby in the middle of the night? If you set health and fitness and taking care of your body to a priority, then YOU CAN and YOU WILL make the time for it, no matter what time it is.
